Operation Eyesight India was named Best Public Health Programme Initiative of the year 2023 by the Indian CSR Network. The award recognizes the effectiveness, sustainability, and innovative corporate partnerships in delivering eye health services across underserved communities
In October 2023, Operation Eyesight launched new vision centres in the Belangir and Bargarh districts. These centres bring essential eye screening, pre-surgical evaluations, and prescription eyewear services closer to rural populations.
Back in February 2022, Operation Eyesight was selected among 100 high-impact Indian NGOs to receive INR 80 lakh (CA$250,000) over two years from the GROW Fund. This grant will expand program capacity and train community vision technicians.
Operating since 1963, Operation Eyesight now works in 90 districts across 17 Indian states, partnering with 36 hospitals and 148 vision centres. In 2022 alone, they screened over 1 million people and performed nearly 118,000 sight-saving surgeries.
A recent field story highlighted efforts with C.L. Gupta Eye Institute to detect and treat Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) among preterm infants — a condition that can lead to childhood blindness if untreated early.
To build sustainable eye care systems, Operation Eyesight partners with institutes like L.V. Prasad Eye Institute to train vision technicians and community health workers. In 2024, more than 300 new vision technicians completed certification programs and are now serving rural and urban communities across India.
